My name is Rick Dews ( I’m the one with the spiky hair above), and this is our Caring Companions family. We are more than just a family owned and operated Christian company. We do life together, pray for each other, support each other on and off the clock, and we love helping others. I am the first to admit that we are a unique group. If you would’ve asked me 10 years ago whether this was in my future, I highly doubt this would’ve been anything close to my answer. I owned a moving company as my father did before me. Hard work and long hours were part of the job and I thought that was destined to be my future.
God had something else in mind. My Grandmother was declining in health and I had the responsibility and opportunity to come along beside her through her struggle. Every Sunday and a couple days during the week were spent helping her with everyday tasks which healthy people take for granted. She was once such a powerful and independent force in our family and now she required help with just about everything. Our relationship grew through this trying phase, and I got a first hand account of the complexities of managing two lives at once. This is a struggle that will touch every family at some point. The difficulties and solutions will be different with each family. My grandmother eventually required a family member to move in and we were blessed enough to have my aunt volunteer. Our story would have been much different had she been unable to move in. Would we put her in an assisted living facility, or a nursing home? Neither of those options would have been her choice and I am quite positive she would have put up a fight. Staying at home was her red line…. None of us could’ve swayed her.
Then God intervened…. A good friend of mine was reaching retirement and owned a companion/personal care sitter service. We had used his company on occasion to help my grandmother and loved the care and consideration shown. So, after prayerful consideration and confirmations all over, I stepped out in faith in a new direction and took over Caring Companions. This journey has led me to a newfound respect for life, family, and relationships. I pray that God continues to bless this company and give us the privilege to serve those in need.
